Bears 59, Panthers 37: Carolina’s Offense Arrived—Its Defense Didn’t | Monday in the Box
The Carolina Panthers scored 37 points, generated explosive plays through the passing game and stood tied with Chicago midway through the third quarter.
They still lost by 22.
In this edition of Monday in the Box, Timmy V.O. examines how Carolina’s offensive progress was overwhelmed by a defensive collapse in the Panthers’ 59–37 season-opening loss to the Chicago Bears.
-
Bryce Young completed 23 of 37 passes for 361 yards and three touchdowns, with one interception. Jalen Coker caught eight passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns, while Chuba Hubbard scored once through the air and once on the ground. But Chicago answered with 552 total yards, 291 rushing yards and eight offensive touchdowns.
-
Carolina demonstrated that its offense can produce enough points to compete. The Panthers did not demonstrate that their defense can consistently force an opponent off the field.
The box score contains both truths. This episode separates them.
